LA CASCADE FRANCE. SEPTEMBER 13-20,2017 PAPERCLAY SCULPTING AND PEWTER REPOUSSÉ, ANCIENT CRAFTS WITH CONTEMPORARY TECHNIQUES
Take a special journey into the world of PaperClay Sculpting and Pewter Metal Repoussé with Lynn Leahy and Elitia Hart.
Two international teachers and award winning artists that will help you easily learn these two fascinating mediums ;and combine them into a lovely work of art. What could be more perfect than a 17 century French village for the setting to create this fabulous triptych.(Approximately 14" high and 24" wide. Easily packs when dismantled.)
During your seven night stay at La Cascade in Durfort, France Lynn will help you work on 3 flat cradle panels to sculpt interior images such as the face, hand and bust shown in the example. Elitia will provide all the knowledge you desire to achieve the stunning metal embossing to enhance and finish your panels. Both of these techniques integrate beautifully into many mixed media projects. No previous experience is necessary.
Each day you will let creativity flow in the beautiful, well- equipped studio. In the evenings you may use the open studio time to continue your creative explorations. There will be time for afternoon walks or hikes amongst the hills and trails surrounding this charming town. The Saturday market in Revel provides plenty of shopping opportunity as well as artistic inspiration. Field trips to the Toulouse-Lautrec museum, the Cathedral in Albi and of course we can't miss the local Sunday flea markets. Carcassonne, a castle town, is not far away.
Durfort is located about one hours drive from Toulouse, in southern France. Farmland and rural countryside mark the landscape of this area and La Cascade actually has a small river with waterfalls right in its backyard. Tranquility at its finest.

Join Lynn Leahy and Helen Shafer Garcia for an extraordinary week in southern France. Live the palette and imagery of Toulouse Lautrec’s artworks, historically ingrained in this region while we reside in the medieval village of Durfort.
Our adventure will begin at La Cascade, a beautifully restored home and art retreat on the river Sor. Imagine starting each day to the relaxing sound of a waterfall , a sumptuous meal, and the anticipation of beginning your creative journey.
Our four day progressive workshop will combine the techniques of reverse glass painting, drawing and watercolor painting, and book construction.
Lynn will walk you through the steps of reverse glass painted tiles. Lynn has perfected this traditional Eastern European technique of painting on one side of the glass knowing that it will be viewed on the opposite side. This technique involves water based paints and clear glass tiles. These versatile tiles will be used to enhance the small box structure.
Helen will guide you on a creative journey of drawing and watercolor techniques used to fill your accordion book. Paint and draw expressively and find your creative voice with watercolor fusion and contour drawing. Once finished, this Lautrec inspired book will grace the interior of your glass tiled box.
These contemporary mixed media techniques will add a new dimension to any mixed media project.
You will live and work at La Cascade and let your creativity flow. Durfort is an historical village of copper craftsman. There are wonderful villages nearby where you will explore flea markets, museums and castles as time allows. Each evening you will have plenty of open studio time to play or leisure time to do as you choose.
Your week in this contemporary mixed media workshop includes: * Housing, based on double occupancy rooms.*Meals will be provided by our own chef, Nese, and includes daily wine parings.*Art workshops, and as many exploration field trips as time allows.*Most of the art supplies will be provided by the instructors.
